UNO/ONE New House Hoorah!
We moved into a gorgeous home here in Boca earlier this year and it was nothing short of a God-send. The Lord helped us every step of the way and telling you it was stress free is a huge understatement. My real estate agent was awesome, my loan officer was a rock star and get this..the sellers of the home were devout Christians which is an even greater blessing. They were the first owners of our home and had lived there for 20+ years. Many wonderful memories with their beautiful family were shared here and it made the process so much more special. Besides all of the wonderful bonuses this home has like the most awesome layout, huge bright and airy kitchen, split floor plan, great neighborhood and neighbors, the best part is definitely being able to sip my tea while I gaze out the window at our lake view.
DOS/TWO Blessed Empty Nest
So it’s true, the apples of my eyes are off to college. My oldest has been attending local community college for the past two years. My youngest went to a prep school after he graduated from high school and this year they are BOTH away at college. sniffle..sniffle..Friends, you plan for this mentally but it isn’t until you wake up and pass their empty rooms that you realize your kids are now adults pursuing their dreams..and really that’s my encouragement..they are going for it and I know they will be huge successes. Cause if you didn’t know I am also a full-time motivational mom and so my kids are awesome and will change this world in a good way – under God’s grace.
TRES/THREE Green Thumbin’ It
Now that we have our own little home, we can do so much we couldn’t do before. I’ve always wanted to grow my own veggies y’know. To be honest, I imagine myself owning a farm, with chickens and lots of land and a few greenhouses. Not sure where it came from, maybe it was the Holly Hobby farmhouse my mother bought me for Christmas when we lived in NY, age 5. When I opened up her tiny oven and popped out the bread pan and mini loaf of bread I determined to one day break bread in my own farmhouse. The dream is still alive. Check out my Gracewood Farms Pinterest board where I’m collecting all my farmhouse treasures. I am however, determined to turn my lovely home into a farmhouse – of sorts. Although, right now the only chicken I have is my metal rooster sitting atop my kitchen cabinets courtesy of Hobby Lobby. But we did start growing some greens using hydroponic methods. That’s a work in progress and I’m excited to eventually be able to grow whatever I want hydroponically- in an environment free from soil, wind damage, pesticides or water run-off. It’s purely sustainable.
CUATRO/FOUR Divine Design
Much has occurred in the design space on the homefront. The entry way has come a long way, I courageously stepped out of my comfort zone and with hubby’s help created a gallery wall to swoon about. I’m loving my DIY chalk board and coffee bar and just finished installing a light fixture for the first time. Not just any light fixture, I found a gorg, vintage, lantern-style light for my entryway. She’s a beaut!
CINCO/FIVE Lovely London
I went to London, again on a business trip and my sis accompanied me. (We went in 2010 and had an amazing time.) We went for a week and crammed in as much as we could. Needless to say, I was exhausted but it was great to spend time with her and take in the London sights and satisfy my mini British obsession. I have a thing about British accents, their food, their history, their traditional design and architecture, their sense of humor and traditions. I even bought a Mini this year! Double heart in the eyes emoji. So we got there like the day after Brexit and got caught in major traffic the day before we left due to some protests. We made it home safely, thank God.
SEIS/SIX Election Redemption
So the US experienced an election like no other. One that literally split this country in more ways than anybody could have ever imagined but thank God, we survived it. Now it’s time to mend and heal. What we need is more love and peace in this world. If everyone in this world took the time to be grateful for what they have and to treat each other the way we all like to be treated, imagine the kind of world this would be.
SIETE/7 A Graceful Design
One major reason for taking a break was the stress of juggling the full-time job writing and then coming home to write for hours and on weekends. I wanted to spend as much time as I could with my family before the boys went away to school. Though I love blogging, I had to re-prioritize and de-stress my work load. When I got close to work deadlines, the blogging would slip. Know what I mean? When I was in my 30’s I was a multitask-aholic but now, I prefer peace of mind and approach each task one at a time. It’s the latest trend in time management y’know. 🙂
Now with the boys off to school and work transitioning to more of a project management role, I have time to make some major headway on my blog. Oh and about that though… another reason for taking a break is that I began to feel like the food blog platform was no longer enough to allow me to express the different aspects of who I am. I love food. I love to cook it, I love to eat it, I love to take pictures of it, watch cooking shows, I love to make new recipes, I love to try new ethnic recipes especially and I looove hosting dinner parties. But there’s more to me than that and so…I..am evolving..like a beautiful butterfly..lol into a lifestyle blog called…wait for it..http://agracefuldesign.com
On this new space, I’ll be talking about the FIVE F’s:
Faith– who I am at the core, what motivates me, what’s kept me and what makes me tick
Family– relationships, more personal lessons learned and experiences, stories that compel you to take a closer look at who you are
Farming– I get to bring you along on my Hydro Farm-to-Table experiences growing our veggies
Farmhouse Design and DIY– You’ll have a front row view of the transformation of my humble abode using farmhouse décor..
Food– Do I need to say anything about this? Food is my passion and I can’t wait to share some really easy but rock-star dishes anyone can make
What’s in the name- a Graceful Design?
I am a designer/engineer at heart. I worked as a Telecom engineer for 16 years and designing is just what I always find myself doing. I am an Instructional Designer and I design technical training. I love to write which is designing a story or storyboard more or less, I love to design new recipes, I love to upcycle furniture and redesign it, create new décor, modify my outfits and if I can do it myself, whatever it is, I WILL DO IT.
The grace part is the core of who I am. I believe Jesus Christ died on the Cross and rose again so his grace would provide a heaven-on-earth kind of life for me, my family and all of humanity. My purpose in life develops as I lean on that grace and it enables me to share my gifts with the world. It’s less doing and more believing. It’s resting in the truth that Jesus already did everything He will ever need to do in order for me to walk in complete WHOLENESS, spirit, soul and body. It’s daily receiving that Grace and allowing it to transform me into the image of Christ. Grace is Everything and it’s freely available for anyone that receives it.
So now you’re all caught up on my life. I’m still building my new website and will keep you up-to-date as things progress. Thanks for listening and see you in my next post.
Peace Out 🙂
